What Is the Trinity? | Since the Council of Nicaea, 1700 years ago this year, the overwhelming majority of Christians have understood God through the lens of the Trinity: the doctrine that this is only One God, but that God consists of three “Persons.” And while each of the Persons is God, the persons are not the same as each other. Thus, when Jesus prays to the Heavenly Father, these are distinct Persons communicating: Jesus is not the Heavenly Father, even though the Heavenly Father is God and Jesus is also God. John Hamer of Toronto Centre Place will look at the development of the concept of the Trinity, and will attempt to explain its paradox without falling into heresies like Modalism. |
