Why Was Jesus from Galilee? | Christians look to Jesus of Nazareth as the Messiah or the Christ, the anointed one foretold by Jewish scripture as the universal savior. Although two of the gospels tell stories of his birth in the town of Bethlehem in Judea, one of the details of his life that upon which historians agree is that Jesus was from the village of Nazareth in the district of Galilee. John Hamer of Toronto Centre Place will look at the history of Galilee and how it differed from Judea in the 1st century AD, considering how Jesus’ context as a Galilean informed his ministry and the movement he founded. |
